Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

Dear me! Today I saw Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. There has been a lot of talk about this film as being inspired by Marry Poppins and will it stand up to the expectations that Kunal Kohli had created from Hum Tum and Fana etc. (Er… did I say Fana? Yeah! Fana it self was not impressive for me.) Anyway I saw the film today.

The film is fairy story mixed with Indian sentiments. I guess this is what the writer said to convince the producer and eventually the producer to the distributor (both are same though!) but the audience said what the hell! The film is week in the script department. I had liked the script of Hum Tum. Though it was inspired by When Harry met Sally, I thought the Indian version was quite fresh attempt. But Fana nah… and now TPTM… NO!

The story line is pretty simple. Sad children and an angry, handsome young man and a beautiful fairy that comes to solve all the problems in this house. She is sent to earth by the God who sports a fresh beard. (Er… is he a fan of my favorite BigB? It suits BigB but not to this God) continuing with the story, the fairy comes and makes some magic (some times without logic!) film takes the crew to Los Angeles to show us some more magic and foreign locations. And bhoom! Beautiful girl and the handsome angry young man fall in love, kids happy, elders happy, audience not happy!

In a scene where God shows this fairy that the young boy and kids are praying for fairy’s return, director uses the torn poster of When Harry met Sally as if to admit that Hum Tum was after all inspired from there! The character sketch of God in TPTM resembles the God from Brus All mighty. But still doesn’t stand up to that level. Narration of the film is quite straight and there are hardly anything that surprises you.

Saif Ali Khan looks easy with his role. But seriously, to a talent power house like Saif this film had nothing to challenge at all. Rani is her usual, Good. Aamisha Patel proves it again that she doesn’t know to act. Kids are just ok. All in all the film doesn’t hold you as there is nothing new in it.

Totally agree.. The only thing the director achieved was the Hum Aapke hain kaun and DDLJ Hum Tum kind of slick mood and feel.. I actually liked Amisha Patel here and in Honeymoon Travels.. My fav. Saif movie is ‘Being Cyrus’ and ‘Omkaara’.. I liked him in Hum Tum as well..

Rani was the most badly typecast, and her role was poorly sketched.. You need to see Nanny Mc Phee, to understand where the frame by frame copying happened..
